When
you purchase items from our web site, shipping is not
added to your total at that time. Due to the limitless
variables and complexity of shipping tropical fish,
it is impossible to provide an immediate shipping cost.
We do everything possible to determine the best
shipping option in your specific situation.
If you call or email
us with your 'shopping list', we will determine
shipping for you. The following is the method
we use to determine your shipping costs. If you would
like to calculate it yourself, here is how you do that:
|
| |
| 1. Are
you within comfortable driving distance from an airport?
(50 miles or so): GOOGLE
Maps |
| |
| If NO,
then DHL is your only practical option. To calculate your
shipping, go to DHL's
web site and enter your package size and related
information. This shipping option is either prepaid by
the customer, or the customer can choose to open and use
a personal DHL account.
USPS is good for non
fish products like snails and Humic. |
| |
| If YES,
then your next step is to first identify which airlines
service your area. Use A-Z
World Airports or Airlines
to help you determine this. Once you have a list of servicing
airlines, then you can obtain rates and schedules from
each individual airline's web sites. |
| Please
note that most of the major carriers offer multiple pricing
tiers and different scheduling options. See our Airline
Info page for detailed
information and guidance on each carrier. |
| |
| 2. You
should have several rates and schedules at this point.
Choose which option is most suitable, and then, we'll
be happy to book your shipment. |
| |
| In
general, you can estimate shipping as follows: |
| Air
Cargo Rates: 50 lb or 2 boxes = $50 to $100 |
| Air
Cargo Rates: 100 lb or 5 boxes = $75 to $150 |
| DHL:
10 to 20 lb or 1 box = $80. to $120. |
| DHL
24 hr ground within Florida = $8.00 for 20 lb |
| |
| |
| Information
you will need: |
| |
| You
will need to know the 3-letter code for the airport in
your area. Use A-Z
World Airports to help you determine this.
We typically ship from PBI, FLL, or MIA. You may need
to know this as well. |
| |
| Shipping
boxes come in several sizes. The 3 most common sizes and
weights are as follows: |
| 20
pound Full Box: 20" X 15" X 10" - 1 box |
| 40
pound Full Box: 20" X 15" X 20" - 2 boxes
taped together into one |
| 20
pound Full Box: 17" X 17" X 10" - Florida
farm box |
| 10
pound Half Box: 17"
X 12" X 8" - half box |
| |
| You
will need to know how many boxes will be in the total
order. Call or e-mail
us, and we can help you answer that. |
| |
| Considerations: |
| |
| It
can be difficult at best to obtain accurate shipping rates
and schedules from airlines online. Part of the service
we offer you is helping to negotiate the spider web of
airlines' constantly changing pricing schemes, schedules,
weight limits, price points, etc. Always call with any
questions you may have, as we have years of experience
in shipping, and will be able to help you immensely. |
| |
| Most
carriers offer multiple levels of service. The quickest
option can be only 2 or 3 hours' delivery , but obviously
the cost goes up. The standard cargo rates are usually
the best deal, balancing cost with shipping time. General
cargo is usually paid for at the freight house when picked
up. |
| |
| You
can expect to pay for shipping up front for high-level
service to local airports. US Airways calls their high-level
service 'PDQ'. Delta uses the name 'Dash'. American Airlines'
goes by the name 'Priority'. Any non-account DHL shipment
requires up front shipping payments as well. These are
often the only resort for small town airports since they
use smaller aircraft through hubs. This is where the taped
double box comes in handy. |
| |
Canadian
and International shipments will come out of Miami
International (MIA) with either American
Airlines, Northwest
Airline or Air
Canada and will cost $80.00 for the Fish
and Game inspection. Rates are posted on
the Air Cargo tables for the airlines but usually run
about $150.00 plus $50 Canadian taxes. All together
about $280.00 for 100 pounds should get the job done. |
